nelistening back, ‘interlude’ will feel like the perfect opening to ‘skylax’. a jazzy encore crawls in, morphing into a skippy hip-hop instrumental with jason’s signature flourishes all over it. aptly named as it is, this is the breathing space between whatever came before in your day, and the eleven deep house gems that are to follow. speaking of, ‘the love’ will have you gripped from the first bar. it glides the listener in, then subtly drops that signature, tightly-tuned bassline of jason’s and continues onto soulful vocals from there. ‘old dayz’ touches on a bit of a nostalgic note. the spoken vox cuts harken back to 90s hip-hop joints, playing over a looped latin sample-led beat. from there, ‘rawkicks 2’ shows jason’s rough and ready sampling style in action. a seemingly simple track, but one which has that special something which guarantees to keep people on the floor moving for its duration. ‘cut b’ contrasts this nicely, being a much cleaner production with tight drum programming and synth work. that said, it still has the classic jg atmosphere we love. closing out the first half of the album, ‘definition’ slows the pace ever so slightly, with its eternal pad structure that builds up the track’s momentum into something very mellow and deep.bringing in the second half of ‘skylax’, ‘john blue’ takes things back a notch further. a deeper tune, yet one that shows off an uncharacteristically punchy bass hit from jason. ‘last night’ is a track more reminiscent of jason’s first lost cuts ep on wax classic, sounding as if it had been freshly taken off an old tape with its sample-led beat and background hiss. the last four tracks of the album see a return to the ‘mastercuts’ and ‘lovedits’ series which fans will recognize from the ‘lost cuts’ records, with ‘lovedits 7’ and ‘mastercut 5’ respectively. the former is a laid back female vocal edit with the entire suite of signature jg touches while the latter is a garage house hit more crafted for the club. ‘bb’ brings the album to a close, twisting a disco/funksample over a pallet of drums and effects for the near six-minute duration of the track.all in all, this is the perfect follow up to jason’s debut album ‘313.4.ever’, with tracks for both the club and home listening. if you happened to miss the first album back in 2012, don’t forget that now you have the chance to grab it in a special double pack with ‘skylax’ on cd!so, needless to say, this timeless record is a must purchase for all collectors and djs out there

ol aka oleg buyanov is well known in his native russia already. he has a background extending from releases on faces records and scuzzy lo-fi hip hop beats on labels like error broadcast, idle and fine grains dating back to 2007. more recently though he has been increasingly turned on by dance floor focussed sounds and as such, here come two missives on russias capital bass (which also hosts a popular bass and garage night in moscow and has done since 2006).

hello?repeat 022 brings flash and anavi. both tracks in essence bring a linear and continuous flow, to many, a daze maxim signature in the sense that each element does not scream for attention alone, it is the combination of them which creates the overall impact. a dose of what we need when we need it. it is to do with structure, it is about the way in which elements are thrown in adding that bit of surprise effect which is able to stunt and amuse us all in a very good way. flash starts with a solid bass line, the vocal flash, a hypnotic cosmic/trippy element and a hoovering noise on the background making up the intro. the locomotive sounding high-hats then slam in, which together with the bass line complete a dance floor bliss of a track with all that groove.

eno louis gained a solid background in traditional edo music as a student at edo college in benin city, south-east nigeria. he lived at felas kalakuta republic till the army raid in 1978, when he moved to the us for a couple of years. on his return, he recorded with edo funk powerhouse the talents of benin, and quickly became a mainstay of the flourishing disco and boogie scene, in-demand as guitarist and drummer, with credits including releases by pogo ltd, amas grill, chris okotie, oby onyioha, chris mba, dizzy k falola, harry mosco, pat finn and the super elcados... to name just a few. the two tracks here are from louis debut lp, living in the usa.

jessy lanza s debut album *pull my hair back*, co-written and co-produced with jeremy greenspan from junior boys, is a 2013 flagship for what electronic pop could sound like, stripped of bloated, behaviourist impulses that treat listeners like lab rats. it is graceful and erotic without the gratuitous close ups, icey and sensual, sweet without rotting your teeth, emotional but with enough blue glow to pull your heart strings. jessys voice flutters through the synths seductively, insistent without the over-singing and grating choruses that plague so much contemporary pop. jessy lanza has a background as a singer and skilled piano scholar, and the duo share a mutual love of collecting the old hardware synths and drum machines that grace this collection of songs. transecting r&b, house, disco and 80s studio rock, the production is immaculate, reminiscent of early junior boys, treading that fine line between cold futurism and the r&b that jessy and jeremy are infatuated with.

mondo the name mondo has its roots in mondo movies, an italian movie genre born in the 60s. mondo movies are characterized by documentary-like content that addresses several topics from around the world (mondo). the mondo label has the goal to produce music that is descriptive of concepts, images and environments. mondo is inspired by library music, a genre frequently used as theme or background music in radio, film and television in that very same period.

after his cosmic gate e.p. (knotweed 004), gonzalo comes back with four new tracks. here he develops further his very unique style of techno, blending deep, dubby and spacey chords together with a fierce sub-bass heavy dark background pounding beat for maximum efficiency.

gilesku records is back with two eccentric minimalistic techno tracks delivered by onur ozer. obviously heavily influenced by peak hours in the club, these tracks will serve their purpose right, providing a perfect hook to drive people further in a higher state of consciousness. by paying close attention to detail, he manages to provide music where he bravely paints fat techno sounds with minimalistic elements, layering them by unconventional noises in the background. a peak time material!

the a side opens with redence delusions introduced by a delay metallic notes, and a line grating background that give entry to a hard nut to crack hype joining the above sequence to form the groove. the delays become more important as the track progresses, and more incisive percussion, dance inducing wilder. the second track on this side sagae has been granted to tomohiko sagae, the japanese producer emerges on the scene to give it a fresh industrial sounds dark dye forcefully included. catalog is part of the prestigious british label rodz-konez, in addition to works published in huehelix and atrocity. we present a cut with a pounding bass drum rhythmic against a distorted sequence taken from a radar air booming steel industry, and dark piercing screams that increase the intensity of its entirety through the plug-in more severe. a full-blown rebellion industrial sounds with those harmonics so peculiar that offers japanese school.

vaal heralding from a rock n roll and jazz background vaal is not aware of the strict rules that define & guard electronic music. therefore vaal is not afraid to break them.

after their hot contributions for treats vol. 2, session victim prove indeed that they are on the roll with a funkafied and no holds barred ep that pays homage to their hip-hop roots. move me so starts rather simply, with just a guitar and a vocal, but you can hear a moving bassline and distant rhodes chords creeping up from the background. two minutes into the track and theres still no kick drum, although the level of excitement produced by the magnetic groove is almost unbearable. a filtered drum break finally gives way to a four to the floor beat that should turn any dancefloor into a frenetic party. the track builds with high energy, as the pounding bassline seems to be directly lifted from an early 90s hip-hop classic. the breakdown sees the vocal/guitar loop being played differently until the second part shifts gear and brings more surprises in the mix with the intro rhodes chords coming in and out.
